The family announces with great sorrow the death of Eddie Welsh in Sudbury, May 25, 2013 at the age of 77. He was the beloved son of the late Lewis Welsh and of the late Jennie (née Finlan). He is survived by his wife, soul mate and best friend Pauline Welsh (née Léger) of Markstay. Eddie was the loving and devoted Father of Suzanne Pletzer (Dan) of North Bay, Line Leduc (Marc) and Lise Welsh, both of Sudbury. His pride and joy were his three grandchildren Kelsey, Jordan and Chantal. He is also survived by his dear sister Aileen Large, niece and godchild Enrica McGillis (Darren) and nephews John Large (Kristen) and Michael Large (Tara). He was predeceased by his younger brother Michael. Eddie was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Conseil 11255 Coniston. He was also a 4th degree with Bishop Scollard Assembly-Sudbury. In 1989, the township of Hagar presented Eddie with a “Certificate of Merit” in recognition of outstanding community service and achievement. In 2003, he received the “Senior of the Year Award” for his work enhancing community life. He was a Markstay and District Lion’s Club member for many years, two as President. He was a volunteer with the MCTV Christmas Telethon and delivered gifts and food baskets to the needy. He also worked with the local branch of the Boy Scouts of Canada. To the local residents, he was best known as “Santa”. For many years he decorated the Welsh’s home. To him it was a labor of Love. In the summer his favorite spot was at Gateway Camping in Wasaga Beach. He called it “A home away from Home”. He enjoyed mingling with the other campers. Eddie was an avid fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs. He was a dedicated member of St. Mark’s Parish, serving as a Minister of the Eucharist and also as an usher. He will always be remembered for his wonderful smile, great sense of humor and kind heart. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Cooperative Funeral Home, 222 Lasalle Blvd, Sudbury on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 from 2-5 and 7-9:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. Mark’s Church in Markstay. In lieu of flowers, donations (by cheque only) to the St. Mark’s Church, Markstay, would be appreciated.
