Avis de décès pour Jacqueline Hackett

Jacqueline Hackett, née Samson, known to all as Jacqui, slipped away in her sleep on February 13th, age 91. Daughter of prominent Sudbury businessman and onetime mayor A.J. Samson, Jacqui was a lifelong resident of the city and a fiercely proud Sudburian. After earning her Master’s degree from St Michael’s College, University of Toronto and teaching qualifications from the Ontario College of Education in 1947, she returned home and taught French and Latin at Sudbury High. In 1952 she married fellow teacher Fred Hackett. A thoroughly modern woman, Jacqui not only lavished love and care on her four children but continued to teach, was an active member of the University Women’s Club, the Senate of the University of Sudbury, and the Elizabeth Barrett Browning chapter of the IODE. Somehow she also found time for an active social life featuring regular dinner parties and convivial evenings of bridge with her many close friends. She continued to contribute to the community in retirement volunteering her time at Paroisse Ste-Anne-des-Pins and the Sudbury General Hospital. Her deep love and wicked sense of humour will be missed by daughters Fleur of Sudbury, Yvette of Ottawa, and sons Lachlan (and wife Julie-Ann) of Brisbane, Australia and Evan (wife Heather) of Edmonton. Jacqui also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren Alix, Liam and Matthew. The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the staff of For Seniors Only, Red Cross and Bayshore for the care they provided to Jacqui at home as well as to the Pioneer Manor community for their loving attention. The family will receive relatives and friends at the COOPERATIVE FUNERAL HOME, 222 Lasalle Blvd. Sudbury, Wednesday, February 18th, 2015 from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9:30 pm. Funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 am at Ste-Anne-des-Pins Church, Sudbury. Donations (by cheque only) to Pioneer Manor Tree of Life, 960 Notre-Dame Avenue, Sudbury, ON P3A 2T4 would be appreciated.
