The family announces with sorrow his passing at his residence, Sunday, January 3, 2016 at the age of 91 years. Husband of the late Gabrielle (née Pothier) Fortin. Son of the late Alpha and the late Anna (née Simon) Fortin. Loving father of Jeannette Lemieux (Fernand), Richard Fortin (Denise), Line Fortin (Roch Gauthier) all of Hanmer, Dianne Potvin (Gaston) and Gilles Fortin (Diane) both of Sudbury, Fernand Jr. Fortin (Molly) of Val Caron and Michel Fortin (Carole) of Wahnapitae. Dear brother of Gilberte Benoit (late George) of Sudbury, Gérard Fortin (Gertrude) of Alban, Rita Robert (René) of Sturgeon Falls, Lorraine Shantz (Moïse) of Vancouver, Armand Fortin (Diane) of Chelmsford and Jeanne D’Arc Lafond (René) of Toronto. Predeceased by his siblings Léo, Ludger (late Grace), Omer (late Marguerite), Gracieuse Frappier (late Aurel) and René (Barbara of Sudbury). Cherished grandfather of Gilles, Dominique, Julie, Chantale, Mélanie, Lyanne, Janic, Yvan, Phillipe, Pierre, Sophie, Andréa, Mathieu, Michael, Mason and great-grandfather of Émilie, Alexie, Gabrielle, Sam, Dani, Jordan, Abigail, Nora, Noah, Benjamin, Christian, Annabella and Charlie-Rose. Fernand was a World War II Veteran. He was also a miner, retiring from INCO with 40 years of service. The family will receive relatives and friends at the COOPERATIVE FUNERAL HOME, 222 Lasalle Blvd Sudbury, Thursday, January 7, 2016 from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9:30 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St-Jean-de-Brébeuf, Sudbury.
