The family announces with great sorrow his passing, Friday, May 6, 2016 at the age of 82 years. Beloved husband of Eleanor (née Rysdale)(formerly Scully) Sarmatiuk of Sudbury and of the late Theresa (née Sullivan). Loving father of Lorrie Petryna (Greg) of Sudbury, Michael Sarmatiuk (Sonya) of Bowmanville and Tim Sarmatiuk (Krista) of Sudbury and stepfather of Karen Scully (Cil Pinkett) of Toronto, Judy Scully (Peter Zieleniewski) of Chelmsford, Barry Scully (Vicki) of Levack, Brenda Thompson (Brian) of Sudbury and Sandra Tegel (Darren) of Dowling. Cherished grandfather of Stephen, Heather (Kevin), Christopher, Alexandra, Cameron, Curtis, Zachary, Owen, Megan, Liam, Archie Ross, Regan (Keith), Devin, Trevor (Natalie), Chelsey (Nick), Alanna (Grant), Cale and great-grandfather of Isabel. Lovingly remembered by many cousins, relatives and friends. Don was a principal with the Sudbury Catholic District School Board for many years retiring in 1988. He was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, Centennial Council 6074, Sudbury. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt appreciation to all of the staff at St. Joseph’s Villa for their kind and compassionate care. Relatives and friends are invited to visit the COOPERATIVE FUNERAL HOME, 222 Lasalle Blvd, Sudbury, Monday, May 9, 2016 from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9:30 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Church, Sudbury. Donations to the St. Joseph’s Villa can be made by cheque.
