It is with great sorrow that we announce Roger’s passing in Sudbury on Thursday July 14, 2016 at the age of 85 years. Son of the late Pierre and Germaine (née Pilon) Gagnon. Predeceased by his beloved wife and life partner Joyce. He was a dedicated husband and father, with a kind, patient, and loving heart, and will forever be missed by his six children: Daniel (Brenda), Suzanne Dubien (Ginot), Marc-Roch, Pierre (Susan), Catherine, Caroline Bean (late David); his grandchildren: Eric (Lisa), Mathieu (Amanda), André, Raymond, Jacquie (Patrick), Joey, Christopher, Melanie; and his two great grandsons: Zavier and Louie. Also in mourning are Roger’s remaining brothers Roch, Simon (Priscille), Jean-Pierre (Pat), and Rémi (Suzanne), and sisters Lucille Forrest and Huguette Bedwell (Lance). Roger will be missed by his in-laws Hubert (Marie), Mildred Gardiner (Harry), Sidney (Mary), Jeoffrey and Doreen. Roger was born in Chiswick ON. He graduated from College Sacré Coeur in Sudbury and started his teaching career at Chelmsford High School. He retired from teaching in 1988 at Lasalle Secondary School, having started at Lasalle in the first year the school opened in 1962. Roger married Joyce in 1956, and they enjoyed life together, including raising their family and skiing, golfing, walking, and many trips to Florida. He built ‘camp’ on Lake Nipissing from the ground up, which the family enjoyed for many decades. Roger was an expert carver and generously shared his work with others, each bird taking countless hours to complete. Roger had an excellent sense of humour and enjoyed a rich life, always having time for his family and friends. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Cooperative Funeral Home, 222 Lasalle Blvd, Sudbury on Sunday, July 17, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 18th, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at L’Annonciation Church, Sudbury.
