Avis de décès pour Alfred Pella

Our family and friends are grieving the loss of Alfred Pella husband to Joan for almost 60 years. Alfred, known to most of us as Fred and to his Italian friends as Fredo. Left sons Christopher and wife Linda, Michael and wife Melanie, their son Carter, son Timothy and the father-in-law to our beloved late Jan. Fred’s parents already naturalized Canadians returned to their place of birth in the thirties to buy a farm in Pordenone, Italy. There Fred was born in 1935. Because of the ugly political situation in Italy, in the late thirties, and finding himself missing the life over in Canada, Father Tomaso Pella, returned to Canada with sons Rudy and Bruno. Mother Marianna, daughters Noemi and Antoinette with toddler Fredo, remained in Pordenone in order to sell the farm. They became entrapped there by the war.
Finally in 1948, the family was reunited in Sudbury, Fred received some Canadian schooling, but at a young age began working for his brother Rudy in his construction business. Then, he began his career of 35 years as a field supervisor for the architectural firm of Townend Stefura and Baleshta. Fred was especially involved in the construction of many of our great Sudbury landmarks including Science North, Health Sciences North, Laurentian University and several government buildings. Fred also designed some beautiful homes on his own and built two of his own homes after working hours. He designed the remodeling of the older house in which he has lived for the last several years. Fred has loved soccer, books, art, music, gardening, good food, wine and his family. We loved him very much.
