It is with great sorrow that the Dwyer family announce the passing of Anthony (Tony) Dwyer in Sudbury on January 25, 2017 at the age of 78 years. Surrounded by family, Tony peacefully passed away after a short illness.
Beloved husband of Bernie (née Scott) Dwyer of Sudbury. Son of the late Gregory and the late Elizabeth (née Haas) Dwyer. Loving father of Anthony Jr. Dwyer (Elizabeth), Linda Dwyer-Commando (Blythe) and Donna Dahl (Kevin). Anthony was the youngest of 16 children. Cherished grandfather of Christopher, Amanda, Tristan, Aidan and Jackson.
As a youth, he worked for the U.S Airforce, as a cook at Harmon Field in Stephenville, Newfoundland. Tony then moved to the Sudbury region to begin his career in mining. He worked as a foreman at Inco, until his retirement in 1991. It is in Sudbury where Tony met, fell in love with and married Bernie on September 10, 1960; they were married 56 years.
Tony enjoyed retirement to his fullest with time spent at the camp, cottage in Newfoundland and winters spent with close friends in Cocoa Beach, Florida. Tony was an avid curler, had a passion for fishing and loved to travel. The family will receive relatives and friends at the COOPERATIVE FUNERAL HOME, 222 Lasalle Blvd, Sudbury, Saturday, February 4, 2017 from 2 to 4 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 4 p.m. in the Chapel.
